HacDC is a non-profit organization and space dedicated to technical, artistic and social collaboration. We are technologists, tinkerers, crafters and codemonkeys who call DC home. We collaborate across disciplines for the benefit of cultural, charitable and scientific causes. We create, learn and teach as a group, inviting our neighbors around the block and around the world to join us!

RFID tags operate at a variety of frequencies and implement a plethora of protocols, both open and proprietary. I worked with a SkyeTek M1 a few years ago, which is capable of reading "most" 13.56 MHz tags. I know HID is pretty popular and (commonly) operates at 125 kHz and uses a proprietary protocol that I'm not aware of any documentation for. So ... you'd probably need a couple antennas/sensors and several reader modules to read almost anything. Notably, SmarTrip uses its own protocol that I didn't get around to extracting when I was researching it for a bit.

@skijmpr: Fantastic! Do we have a DDR pad in the boneyard or do we make our own?

@katie: Haha. Does inviting our neighbors to break in to our space count as "community outreach"?

Knock-pattern sensor: … The biggest obstacles are if some members have bad rhythm or our neighbors have particularly good rhythm.
Considering that our neighbors include the Young Women's Drumming Empowerment Project, I'd say there's a good chance of that. :)
