ConsHack the Genome Shmoocon Presentation
Had a bunch of really interested folks at the "Hack the Genome, the age of biomolecular cryptography" talk today at Shmoocon. Lots of fantastic ideas and great discussions afterwards with interested hackers. It is great to see how much creative knowledge and energy there is in our community. I was asked to share my slides, so I have put them up on my site over at Radio Free Genome, and you can download the presentation directly from here.
Party Mode! HacDC Style! From http://hackerspaces.org/blog/ Those of you that were on the conference call last Sunday were the first to be made aware that I've been working incognito for the last two months scheming, planning, plotting with fellow members of HacDC to pull off a really cool event. For those that were not made aware, ShmooCon is an annual computer security hacker conference in DC that covers many topics, including 0-day exploits, Hack the Genome! The Age of Bimolecular Cryptology, or The Gentlemen's Agreement: Pwning Friends Legally for Fun, ????, and Profit, how the Ohio voting machines were able to be compromised (a '08 favorite talk of mine), and - if you have an itchy trigger finger - Hack or Halo. So how does HacDC play into this? Well, some short background: Now at this ShmooCon we're very loud and very proud of how far we have come and we'd like to say thanks to everyone by hosting the official ShmooCon Friday night party. The details are forth coming but the basics are: Location: HacDC Sanctuary (4 meters from the Altar) 1525 Newton St NW, Washington DC 20010 USA Time: 10pm till past 3ish. How/Who: If you're a member of a hackerspace or an attendee of ShmooCon, just show up for the festivities. Venue: What to expect: Three DJ's: Plus a number of fun projects that hackers from other hackerspaces are bringing in to show off. Party Mode On! ***** UPDATE: Bring your laser pointers! Shuuush. ;)
Gaming / Music Charity Event Friday outside Philadelphia
My fellow DCers! This Friday some friends of HacDC will be putting on a gaming and music event outside of Philadelphia (Bellmawr, NJ) - I wanted to throw this out to anyone interested in going. I will be heading up there Friday afternoon (around noon) and we may have an extra seat or two, anyone interested please email me at andrew@i11industries.com.

HacDC at The Last Hope
HacDC's effort at the Last Hope was a roaring success! Thanks to all who participated in the Hackerspace Village and HackersMart! We'll definitely be bringing those to a con near you very soon (as in, after we get some sleep!)
And congrats to Eliot for his CNet mention! Mail us your HOPE links and writeups, info@hacdc.org
MOCA 2008: A Dream Come True
Our friends from the Italian Embassy* are putting on a great event in Pescara, Italy on August 21-24.
Metro Olografix Camp 2008.
Many hoped, few believed, the rumors conflicting, the souls aflame, cats and dogs sleeping together, but in the end we made it!
Four years after the celebration of the 10th birthday of Metro Olografix, at fans' request, the summer camp will come back to let us spend a few hot August days together again, among arrosticini and glasses of wine and swims and talks - oh my! - in neat little Pescara.
"Ardetec li cannilicchie!"
* - We're not actually talking about the Italian Embassy il vero, which happens to be on 3000 Whitehaven St NW. We're talking about the guys who always have really great Grappa at all the events they attend (and put on!)
Rickrolling, TTD style.

Notacon Wrapup
We are now back from Notacon with some new support from the community in hand!
We are really enthusiastic about following up with everyone who stopped by the table. If we didn't get a chance to e-mail you, get a hold of us by e-mailing info@hacdc.org. We are really enthusiastic about helping everyone start a hackerspace in their area! And, if you're local, we hope to see you soon!
