Arthur Ganson presents a few Machines

This DVD documents 36 machines, an animation machine sequences (3 short funny movies presented on my animation machine), a sequence showing how my wire gears are bent and soldered....and a few general scrolling text thoughts about the machines and the process. It is a straightforward documentation of the work which gives overall views of the pieces as well as many close-ups. The audio is strictly the sound of the machines themselves, except for Machine with Chair which is accompanied by a classical guitar piece which I wrote and perform.

Sita Sings the Blues

Directed, written, produced, designed and animated by Nina Paley; Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License; 82 minutes; Animation; Color, stereo; 2008

Sita is a goddess separated from her beloved Lord and husband Rama. Nina is an animator whose husband moves to India, then dumps her by email. Three hilarious shadow puppets narrate both ancient tragedy and modern comedy in this beautifully animated interpretation of the Indian epic Ramayana. Set to the 1920's jazz vocals of Annette Hanshaw, Sita Sings the Blues earns its tagline as "the Greatest Break-Up Story Ever Told."

Movie Night this Friday: Freedom Downtime

Come join HacDC for a viewing of Freedom Downtime, the documentary film made by Emmanuel Goldstein and 2600 Films about Kevin Mitnick.

This film is in direct response to the Miramax film Takedown, where the filmmakers feel that Kevin Mitnick and the hacker community are misrepresented. In this film, the filmakers search out the makers of that film a la Roger & Me as well as interview famous members of the hacker community.

When: Friday, May 22nd 8pm

Where: HacDC Main Space

This event is Free and Open to the Public!

Movie Night 12/19: Star Trek New Voyages: World Enough in Time

NOW HEAR THIS: ALL HACDC EVENTS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Some of you at our first TSS event (which was full of WIN) were confused about the concept of membership.  HacDC does not exist to serve its members, its membership exists to serve YOU. HacDC members have certain rights and responsibilities. Their biggest "right" is unfettered access to the space.
